Overview

The NRSWA Unit O2 course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to reinstate excavations in the road or highway safely and to specification. Delivered in accordance with the Street Works Qualification Regulations (SWQR), this course ensures reinstatement is carried out in compliance with industry standards, protecting both the public and underground utilities.

The training combines classroom-based learning with hands-on workshop practice, covering all aspects of reinstating footways, carriageways, and modular surfaces. On successful completion, delegates will receive certification and registration with the Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR).

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the requirements of the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA).
  • Prepare excavations for reinstatement in accordance with specification.
  • Reinstate sub-base, base, and surface layers to the correct depth and compaction.
  • Reinstate modular and flexible surfaces safely and effectively.
  • Use appropriate materials, tools, and equipment for reinstatement.
  • Apply safe systems of work to protect workers, utilities, and the public.
  • Deliver a reinstated site that meets specification and inspection requirements.

Pre-Course Requirements

No formal qualifications are required, but delegates should have a basic level of written and spoken English. PPE is required, including safety boots, hi-visibility clothing, gloves, safety glasses, and a safety helmet.

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for operatives who are required to carry out reinstatement of highways and footpaths following excavation work, including those working in utilities, civil engineering, groundworks, and construction.
