Overview

The NRSWA Unit O8 course provides participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills to reinstate modular surfaces and concrete footways in accordance with the Street Works Qualification Regulations (SWQR) and the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways (SROH).

Delegates will learn how to handle, lay, and finish modular paving, flags, and concrete surfaces to industry standards, ensuring safe, durable, and compliant reinstatements. The course combines classroom instruction with hands-on training and assessment, leading to certification and SWQR card registration upon successful completion.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Understand NRSWA and SROH requirements for reinstating modular and concrete surfaces.
• Select and prepare suitable materials for reinstatement.
• Re-lay paving slabs, modular blocks, flags, and other modular surfacing materials correctly.
• Reinstate and finish concrete surfaces to specification, including curing and surface finish requirements.
• Maintain alignment, levels, and surface integrity to ensure compliance and safety.
• Reinstate around features such as inspection chambers, kerbs, and ironwork.
• Inspect reinstatements to ensure they meet compliance standards.
• Apply safe working practices to protect operatives, pedestrians, and underground utilities.

Pre-Course Requirements

No formal qualifications are required, but delegates should have a basic level of written and spoken English. PPE is required, including safety boots, hi-visibility clothing, gloves, safety glasses, and a safety helmet.
