Overview

SCO Module 1 – Core provides essential knowledge for individuals working within the gas network industry. This foundational module equips delegates with the understanding of safety procedures, operational protocols, and permit issuance required to carry out gas network operations safely and in line with industry standards.

Training combines classroom-based theory with interactive discussions to ensure participants fully understand the principles of SCO operations.

Objectives

This module develops the core understanding and skills required for safe and competent gas network operations, including:

  • SCO Procedures & Context – Understanding the purpose, process, and main features of revised SCO procedures and the scope of SCO operations.
  • Risk & Safety Systems – Identifying types of safe systems within the risk hierarchy and applying a risk-based approach to SCO operations.
  • Roles & Responsibilities – Recognising the responsibilities of key personnel within SCO, and the importance of communication on site.
  • Deviations & Emergency Procedures – Understanding the correct response to deviations and emergency situations.
  • Records & Monitoring – Identifying requirements for records management, performance review, audits, and monitoring.
  • Competency & Registration – Understanding SCO competency requirements and EUSR registration procedures.

Pre-Course Requirements

Delegates must possess the appropriate skills to perform their role, including suitable reading and writing abilities. 

Who Should Attend?

This module is designed for gas industry personnel involved in operational works on gas networks and certain meter installations, including individuals who are or will become Authorising Engineers or Competent Persons.
