O3 Reinstatement and Compaction of Backfill Materials
Course Unit: O3 Reinstatement and Compaction of Backfill Materials
Course Duration: 1 DayOverview
The NRSWA Unit O3 course provides the knowledge and practical skills to reinstate and compact backfill materials safely and to specification following excavation works in the road/highway. Delivered in accordance with the Street Works Qualification Regulations (SWQR) and the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways (SROH), the course focuses on selecting suitable materials, correct layer thicknesses, and achieving required compaction standards.
Training blends classroom theory with hands-on practical exercises. Successful completion leads to certification and registration with the Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR).

- Place backfill in correct layer thicknesses and compact using suitable plant to specified densities.
- Apply safe systems of work to protect workers, utilities, and the public.
- Inspect and verify backfill quality to meet specification and enable subsequent layers.
