Overview

The NRSWA Unit S5 course covers supervisory monitoring of reinstatement using bituminous materials (cold-lay and hot-lay methods). Delegates will learn to assess material selection, surfacing techniques, jointing and compaction to ensure durable and compliant carriageway and footway reinstatements. Successful completion leads to registration on the Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR).

Objectives

 On completion of this course, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the SROH/NRSWA requirements for bituminous reinstatements (cold and hot-lay).
  • Monitor placement, jointing, sealing and compaction of bituminous layers to specification.
  • Assess surfacing around ironwork, channels and edges to ensure longevity and safety.
  • Identify poor workmanship or non-compliance and require remedial action.
  • Demonstrate competence through written assessment to achieve SWQR registration.

Pre-Course Requirements

No formal qualifications are required, but delegates should have a basic level of written and spoken English. PPE is required, including safety boots, hi-visibility clothing, gloves, safety glasses, and a safety helmet.

Supervisors responsible for monitoring reinstatement works involving bituminous surfacing on highways and carriageways.
